You can now launch the t2.xlarge and t2.2xlarge, the newest Amazon EC2 burstable-performance instances. The t2.xlarge features 16 GiB of memory and 4 vCPU, and the t2.2xlarge features 32 GiB of memory and 8 vCPU. These two new instances provide burstable-performance options for larger workloads. As with other T2 instances, t2.xlarge and t2.2xlarge are well suited for workloads that require a consistent baseline performance with the ability to burst. T2 instances are backed by Intel Xeon processors with clock speeds up to 3.3 GHz.
Customers with existing T2 workloads can now scale up to the larger T2 sizes, and customers with larger workloads can now benefit from using a low-cost burstable T2 instance in either the t2.xlarge or t2.2xlarge sizes. t2.xlarge and t2.2xlarge are recommended for general purpose applications which don’t use the CPU all the time, like web servers, development environments, line of business applications and application servers.
T2 instances can be purchased as On-Demand Instances and Reserved Instances. The t2.xlarge and t2.2xlarge instances are available in the US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), US West (San Francisco), EU (Ireland), EU (Frankfurt), South America (Brazil), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Sydney), China (Beijing), and Amazon Web Services GovCloud (US) regions. The Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) region is operated by SINNET.
