Today, Amazon IoT is announcing the general availability of several new enhancements for Amazon IoT Device Management. These new features will enable customers to better monitor characteristics of their fleet over time, diagnose connectivity issues, and perform aggregation queries to group devices across different values.

Amazon IoT Device Management enables customers to index and search device information from Amazon IoT Core using the Fleet Indexing & Search capability. Today, customers can perform queries to get aggregate information across their fleet in real-time. Fleet Metrics is a new feature that gives customers the ability to automatically send aggregate information to Amazon CloudWatch and monitor the aggregate state of their fleet over time. For example, customers can use Fleet Metrics to analyze connectivity trends across their fleet and create alarms in Amazon CloudWatch to notify users when connectivity rates fall outside a defined threshold. To learn more about how to create and use a Fleet Metric, see the documentation.

Today, customers use Fleet Indexing & Search to search, target, group, and organize devices based on connectivity state and attributes. Now, you can also search for devices based on a new “Disconnect Reason” data field that provides additional insight into why particular devices lost their connection to Amazon IoT, helping fleet managers better diagnose connection issues across their fleet. Lastly, customers who manage a fleet of devices now have the ability to group devices by a particular attribute, property, or other metadata using the new Bucket Aggregation query type. To learn more about how to use aggregation queries, see the documentation.

The new enhancements are now generally available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, as well as the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD. To begin using these new features, enable Fleet Indexing in your Amazon IoT account.
