Starting today, you can use Amazon Secrets Manager to rotate Amazon Database Migration Service (DMS) source and target database credentials easily. Rotating credentials is an Amazon Identity and Access Management (IAM) best practice that helps you meet your security and compliance requirements.

To get started, create and store your source or target (or both) credentials as a secret in Amazon Secrets Manager and then provide these details to Amazon DMS. Amazon DMS will retrieve credentials from Amazon Secrets Manager every time it needs to connect to the endpoint. By storing credentials in Amazon Secrets Manager, you can reduce the overhead of maintaining DMS source and target authentication system, including: auditing, updating, and rotating your source and target database related credentials.
