Amazon CloudWatch now supports composite alarm action suppression, enabling you to reduce alarm noise during planned operational events. You can choose an alarm that will act as a suppressor for the actions of a composite alarm. When the suppressor alarm is in the ALARM state, if the composite alarm changes state, then the actions associated with this state change are withheld.
For example, customers can create an alarm on a supporting resource’s availability, and use that alarm as a suppressor for their composite alarms. While the supporting resource is unavailable and the suppressor alarm is in the ALARM state, composite alarms monitoring an application's health may change state, but no actions are taken by those alarms as a result of the suppression. The customer can focus on the supporting resource without being overwhelmed by notifications or tickets. When the supporting resource becomes available again, composite alarms monitoring an application's health will return to their default status and take actions again on subsequent status changes without any action required from the team.
Composite alarm action suppression is now available at no additional cost in Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) region, operated by Sinnet, and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) region, operated by NWCD. Standard CloudWatch pricing applies to the alarms you create – See the pricing page for more details. To get started please refer to our documentation.
