Amazon IoT SiteWise now supports the use of user-defined unique identifiers for asset, asset models, properties and hierarchies. This new feature allows consistency and control using identifiers for assets and asset models in Amazon IoT SiteWise, especially for companies that have modeled their industrial equipment in multiple systems or Amazon IoT SiteWise instances.
With this feature, industrial customers can provide user-defined identifiers, allowing them to use their own IDs in place of the Amazon IoT SiteWise auto-generated IDs. Additionally, a new external ID field is introduced to facilitate mapping from their other systems. Until now, auto-generated IDs made it challenging to maintain consistency with existing identifiers from external systems or other Amazon IoT SiteWise instances. Now, users can seamlessly reuse their own identifiers without the need to maintain mapping between such IDs and Amazon IoT SiteWise generated IDs. Also, customers who operate different Amazon IoT SiteWise environments, such as development and production, will be able to reuse the same IDs for their resources across these environments.
This feature is available in all Amazon Web Services regions where Amazon IoT Sitewise is available, including the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD. CloudFormation support will be coming soon.
