Amazon RDS for SQL Server expands supports for M6i, R6i, R5d and X2iedn instance types in Amazon Web Services China Regions. M6i, R6i, R5d and X2iedn instances are available in Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
M6i and R6i instances, powered by 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, deliver improved compute price performance over equivalent M5 and R5 instances. To meet customer demands for increased scalability, M6i and R6i instances provide a new instance size of 32xlarge with 128 vCPUs and 33% more memory than the largest M5 and R5 instances. These instances give customers up to 50 Gbps of networking speed and 40 Gbps of bandwidth to the Amazon Elastic Block Store, 2x that of M5 and R5 instance.
R5d instances, powered by Amazon EC2 Nitro System, provide up to 3,600 GiB of Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSD-based instance storage. When provisioning R5d instances, Amazon RDS for SQL Server automatically places tempdb files on the locally attached NVMe disks, achieving lower storage latencies and lower read/write latencies when compared to standard EBS based offerings.
X2iedn instances, powered by 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors, are suitable for high performance enterprise-class databases. They offer high compute (up to 128 vCPUs), large memory (up to 4 TB) and storage throughput (up to 256K IOPS) with a 32:1 memory to vCPU ratio. With X2iedn, Amazon RDS for SQL Server automatically places tempdb files on locally attached NVMe disks. Learn more about X2iedn by reading this Database Blog.
Get started by creating a fully managed database instances using the Amazon RDS Management Console or the Amazon CLI. See Amazon RDS for SQL Server Pricing for up-to-date pricing of instances, storage, data transfer and regional availability.
