Metrics Insights is a fast, flexible, SQL-based query engine which enables developers, operators and systems engineers to identify trends and patterns across millions of operational metrics in real time. With Metrics Insights, operators can gain better visibility on their infrastructure and large scale application performance with flexible querying, on-the-fly metric aggregations and dynamic alarms that monitor fast moving environments.
Metrics Insights provides a flexible query capability, where operators can aggregate, group their metrics and alarm on dynamic fleets in real-time. For example, operators can analyze thousands of EC2 instances by CPU Utilization to troubleshoot an underperforming application. They can also group instance metrics by InstanceId to narrow down the analysis and pinpoint failing instances rapidly. Additionally, they can use queries to create powerful visualizations using a range of out-of-the-box chart types that will stay up to date as resources are deployed or terminated. Users can also create CloudWatch Alarms on fleets of dynamically changing resources. By combining CloudWatch alarms with Metrics Insights queries, customers can set up dynamic alarms that consistently monitor fast moving environments and alert when anomalies are detected.
To get started with Metrics Insights, click on the “All metrics” link under Metrics on the left navigation panel of the CloudWatch console and browse to the Query tab. Metrics Insights offers support both for standard SQL and a visual query builder. Alternatively, you can use the CloudWatch API, SDK, CLI, or Amazon CloudFormation to create Metric Insights queries and alarms.
Amazon CloudWatch Metrics Insights is now available in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
