Amazon EC2 customers in the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, Operated by Sinnet, and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, Operated by NWCD can now hibernate C6g, C6gn, C6gd, C7g, M6g, M7g, R6g, and R6gd instances that are based on Amazon Graviton processors. Hibernation helps lower costs and achieve faster startup times by enabling customers to pause and resume their running instances at scale.
When you hibernate an instance, Amazon EC2 signals the operating system to perform hibernation (suspend-to-disk). Hibernation saves the contents from the instance memory (RAM) to your Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) root volume. Amazon EC2 persists the instance's EBS root volume and any attached EBS data volumes. When a hibernated instance is resumed, the root volume is restored from its previous state, along with the RAM contents and any previously attached data volumes.
Hibernate capability is available on a variety of instance types, with new types supported regularly. While an instance is hibernated, customers are charged for the storage of EBS volumes, including storage for the contents from instance memory but are not charged for instance usage or for the data transfer from instance memory to EBS volumes.
Hibernate is available through Amazon CloudFormation, Amazon Web Services Management Console, Amazon SDKs, Amazon Tools for Powershell, and the Amazon Command Line Interface (CLI). For information about enabling hibernation for your EC2 instances, visit the hibernation FAQs and User Guide.
